Below are resources that can be used to teach a workshop on interactive storytelling that targets older students. Although interactive games are an increasingly popular category of fiction, there are few teaching modules that focus on interactive storytelling and the aspects where it differs from traditional creative writing.
The module teaches how to build an interactive story using the program Twine, and it has a light discussion of some theoretical topics related to interactive narrative. Students do not need to have experience with interactive media to follow the material.
A booklet with a six page basic tutorial, six pages of creative writing tips, and three pages of supplementary reference material. This guide can be used for self-directed learning or as a handout accompanying the presentation below. It is also available in .odt format.
A presentation that covers some of the material from the above Interactive Storytelling Guide. The presentation is also available in .odp format.
